Radio Broadcast 17 July 2005 Talking Points Series: Is Freedom Christian Topic this week – Liberty – A Biblical and Practical look at the subject of liberty. CW – Before we begin today we are going to update the subject of runaway judges, which our first two broadcasts had some information about. Ford – Remember the song that goes “this land is your land, this land is my land?” CW – Yes I do. Ford – Well were going to have to change the words to “this land was your land, this land was my land. We now have a judge in Carroll County Maryland telling commissioners to either build condos or go to jail. As if the Supreme Court ruling on eminent domain for private projects, was not bad enough, this latest is almost beyond belief. In the face of a lack of water and utilities, Circuit Judge Michael M. Galloway is threatening county officials that if they don't okay a massive condo project he’ll put them in prison. CW – That sounds pretty incredible. Tell me more. Ford - Circuit Judge Galloway says if the planning commission does not approve a 254-townhouse project in a badly congested region, despite a shortage of water and a petition signed by 600 residents he will lock them up. CW - "What is the point of having commissioners if a county is going to be run by judges?" Ford – You’ve got me. --James Madison said "Government is instituted to protect property of every sort. ...[T]hat alone is a just government which impartially secures to every man, whatever is his own." This judge has established his own unjust government. The project, called the Eldersburg project was rejected last year because there are inadequate facilities to handle it. But Circuit Judge Michael M. Galloway ordered commissioners to OK the site plan for this rental complex. Local roads are congested, schools are surrounded by portable classrooms, and the water supply is so stretched, officials have cut back on development, but the judge still wants them to develop. The local residents do not want the project either. The only people who want it are the developer and the judge. This is one more of those cases where people need to look and see what the judge is getting out of all this. CW - Judges are becoming too powerful in this country. Most seem out of touch with what is good and right for society. Ford - In this case, a judge has once again overstepped his authority and is attempting to become a legislator. If he wanted to legislate he needed to resign and run for office. For the sake of their citizens I hope the board unanimously ignores the judge. I don’t think there is anyone the judge can go to enforce the ruling. All the bench warrants in the world are not going to have the board arrested. Sheriff’s run for election too. No one will lift a finger to jail the board, when the voters are so upset about the injustice. CW – Our democratic republic has worked because it has a built in "balance of power." When this balance gets seriously out of whack, the whole system is threatened. Ford – I take some comfort in the reality that history shows that "...Power abused is ultimately power lost!.." I wish judges like that all that they deserve. " Thomas Jefferson said that “One single object...[will merit] the endless gratitude of the society: that of restraining the judges from usurping legislation." CW – You wrote an article on the London bombing where you speculated whether or not the terrorists returned to England might be involved. Has there been any developments on that? Ford – As you know, I justified the speculation based on other Taliban participants who have been returned only to go back to their murdering ways. Since I wrote the article Retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Bob Maginnis, military analyst and Pentagon advisor, has asked the same question. He said The men released “were confirmed Al Qaeda killers, [and he] really questioned their release." CW – I heard they had four suspects in mind now… Ford – Three of the actual bombers have been identified: A 22-year-old Shahzad Tanweer, an avid cricket fan who worked in his father's fish and chips shop; Mohammed Sidique Khan, the married father of an 8-month-old baby, and Hasib Hussain, 19, believed to have carried out the bus bombing. But this does not mean our released terrorists are not involved in it. These are just the people who died in the explosions. Terrorism continues because the minds behind the killings get other people to do their dirty work. CW – Well, if the father of an 8 month old baby, the husband of a wife went off to willingly give his life like that, it certainly shows he was unfeeling toward his family and without a concept of what it means to be responsible. Ford – Islam is a selfish and violent religion. It is not about liberty, the subject of today’s program. It is about slavery. The people who say they are practicing Islam and it is nonviolent have no connection with Islam’s history or the founder of Islam, who was himself a sly and devious man, as well as violent. Let me tell you something else about these fellows. They come from the Leeds area. Leeds England has been presented in the media as a model of peace and cooperation. If you believe that then you have to ignore that was where the so-called "race riots" took place in 2001. Asian and Muslims youth clashed, and if memory serves me right that was when an Anglican priest had to barricade himself in his house with his family to keep the Muslims out. From what I heard about these riots, no one ever seemed to have figured out why the two groups were fighting each other. Were the "Asians" Pakistani teens clashing with teens from some other Middle Eastern country? Apparently, no police officer or clergyman wanted to know the answer. CW – Back to out subject. You claim Christ brings us liberty along with salvation don’t you? We need to get on with discussing that. Ford – I like the Scripture in Isaiah (61:1-3) that says: The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called Trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. You know our Lord Jesus Christ quoted from the first part of that passage when He announced His earthly ministry in the synagogue of His hometown of Nazareth (Luke 4: 16-21). But He stopped speaking with the part about proclaiming the acceptable year of the Lord, telling the people that this day the Scripture was fulfilled in their ears. CW – Yes, I have heard it said that if He had not stopped at that point we would have immediately gone into the End Time events instead of into the Age of Grace called the Church Age. Ford – It is true our Lord came only to fulfill the first portion of Isaiah’s statement but I find it fascinating how in it He once again affirmed the principle of liberty in the announcement of His divine purpose on earth. From the beginning of Creation, God has been concerned with man’s liberty. God gives every one the liberty to either choose to come to Him for salvation, and then whether or not to serve Him. Because God gives men such liberty it stands to reason that He approves of men being able to exercise liberty in the other parts of their lives. CW – There are lots of different forces in the world that want to take away men’s liberties. And, there has always been movements to keep people enslaved. If what you say about God’s interest in liberty is true, then you should be able to demonstrate it even from the beginning of Creation. Ford – I can. God saw perfect liberty requires that men be able to take charge of their environment. So He made man to be His representative on earth. Since God gave liberty to men when He gave Adam the authority to name the animals. He also made them free in the Garden of Eden to take charge of how the garden would be tended. Only one restriction was placed on Adam, and that was that he would not eat of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. And, even with that He gave Adam the liberty or freedom to choose whether he would obey or not. CW – People have always had the liberty to either obey God or not. But I had not thought of the freedom of choice as an endorsement by God for liberty. Ford – I am not the first to think this way. Thomas Jefferson in his Summary View of the Rights of British America, August 1774, said "The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." The Ten Commandments are also an endorsement of liberty. CW – People always criticize it as being full of “thou shalt nots.” How is that an endorsement of liberty? Ford – Founding Father John Adams said "If 'Thou shalt not covet' and 'Thou shalt not steal' were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free." Ford – Lets take the Ten Commandments and I will demonstrate the liberty that is given in each of them: 1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. – This commandment gives a person complete liberty to worship the One True God freely. 2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. – This commandment frees people from the slavery of idolatry and bondage to demonic forces. 3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain. – This command frees BELIEVERS from being hypocrites in the world. 4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. – This command gives us the freedom to have one day in seven for worship, rest, and meditation. 5. Honour thy father and thy mother. – This command frees us from guilt concerning our conduct toward the ones who brought us into the world and cared for us when we were children. 6. Thou shalt not kill. – This command delivers us from blood guilt and the emotional pain that can haunt a person for a lifetime. It also protects our mind from dwelling in hatreds. 7. Thou shalt not commit adultery – This commandment frees us to be faithful to our spouses and to enjoy the most intimate relationship possible between humans without distraction. 8. Thou shalt not steal. – When one takes what belongs to others it not only makes them smaller in their own eyes, it also deprives someone of something they might need. Guilt keeps people looking over their shoulders as well. Obeying this commandment frees people from guilt. 9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. – This frees people to have good relationships with their neighbors. 10. Thou shalt not covet. – When people are not busy desiring what belongs to others they are free to enjoy all God blesses them with. CW – If the Ten Commandments give so much liberty, why are so many people wanting to do away with them? Ford - There a lot of people who are haters of God, so they violate the first commandment and yield themselves servants of Satan. The Devil hates the Ten Commandments because he wants to bring people into bondage. CW – You just said the Supreme Court Justices are servants of Satan. Ford – The Bible says that to whom you yield yourselves to serve his servants you are. CW – Well, let’s just hope that the new justices we are about to get will believe in following the Constitution instead of rewriting it. Ford – I would not put too much hope in our getting good Supreme Court Justices. CW- Why not? Ford – Seven of the nine justices on the Supreme Court were nominated by Republican Presidents and look at what we’ve got! William H. Rehnquist was nominated as Chief Justice by President Reagan. John Paul Stevens was nominated by President Ford. Sandra Day O'Connor; President Reagan nominated her as an Associate Justice. Antonin Scalia was nominated him to the Supreme Court President Reagan Anthony M. Kennedy; Reagan also nominated him to the Supreme Court. David Hackett Souter; President Bush nominated him to the Supreme Court. Clarence Thomas, President Bush nominated him. He was not Bush’s first choice. The Democrats launched a smear campaign to keep him out. And he is probably the best of the lot. Only Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer were nominated by a Democrat. President Clinton, and their evil record speaks for itself. The liberals try to control who gets on the courts since they cannot succeed in taking away liberty by dominating the legislature because they have failed to get enough of the popular vote. So they are going about underhandedly trying to get their way through subversion and manipulation, and the Republicans either collude or give in to them. I think many Republicans are really not what they seem, otherwise they would not accommodate the liberals. I do not have any confidence that things are going to work out any better than they have in the past. I had thought that the nomination of Justice Roy Moore of Alabama would be a good choice for the next Supreme Court judge, but you know, I really do not think the stonewallers in Congress would ever allow a man who is moral and upright and believes in the strict literal interpretation of the Constitution to get into office. Since the idea occurred to me some others have come out and said they thought he would make a fine justice as well. CW – You are right. They do not want a man who is moral and upright. I do not think we will ever see Roy Moore or any man like him get the nomination. It seems we are in trouble. We are in trouble with God as a nation, and our liberty is in jeopardy. Ford – Yes we are. Recent legislation has made it possible for people like you and I to even be put in jail, if we support our political position too strongly, at what they have determined to be the wrong time before an election. They don’t want any more groups, not controlled by a political party, like the “Swift Boat Veterans” being able to tell the truth about candidates. Benjamin Franklin said “Without Freedom of Thought there can be no such Thing as Wisdom; and no such Thing as Public Liberty, without Freedom of Speech." CW – I have been paying attention to these people calling conservative Christians, American Taliban. That is part of the attack on liberty. Ford – Democracies don't have their freedoms taken away from them by some external military force. Instead, they give their freedoms away, politically correct piece by politically correct piece. The liberals in Congress, their friends the silent colluders and traitorous judges are giving those freedoms away to those who have shown they abhor freedom and will take it from you once they are in power. One sage historian (Arnold Toynbee I think) noted: "22 out of 23 great civilizations died not from invasion from without but from decay from within -- there were no drums beating or armies marching when these great civilizations met their end -- their end came in the quiet and darkness of the night when their people no longer cared". History dooms those who do not learn, to repetition. If US liberals have their way, their political manipulations with the lack of Christian morality and resolve on the part of the average citizen will lead this nation to a similar end. CW - The Liberty Bell Inscription says "Proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof." Some people in power are making a mockery of that. Do you have a last word before I close the broadcast? Ford – Yes. Thomas Paine, who was certainly no Christian, saw the truth about evil’s hatred for America when he said: "This new world hath been the asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious liberty from every part of Europe. Hither have they fled, not from the tender embraces of the mother, but from the cruelty of the monster; and it is so far true of England, that the same tyranny which drove the first emigrants from home, pursues their descendants still." His words are still true today. The liberty we have as Americans is a shadow of the liberty we have in Christ Jesus our Lord. There are powers at work seeking to affect both by corrupting the minds of our people through many outlets like the National Education Association, The National Endowment for the Arts, and pornography on television disguised as freedom of speech. In addition to that the courts and politicians have clouded what it means to be a citizen and who is entitled to the rights of citizenship while at the same time they have worked to limit the ability of people who truly love America to speak the truth about what is going on CW – Concludes with speech speaking about biblical admonition not to remove the landmarks. |
