                                                Eternally Secure in Christ

Every once in a while I hear someone, who has been a professing Christian and a Baptist for most of their lives, make some remark about salvation that shows they do not know about eternal security. This is a wonderful truth for those who are genuinely saved that should not be ignored, but rather proclaimed from the rooftops. Instead what I usually hear is some poor soul saying things like, “I was saved once, but I fell into a sin, and now I need to be saved again.”  Listen to me about this. If you can be saved and then lost, you cannot be saved again. For Christ sacrificed on the cross but once and there remains no more sacrifice for sin. (Hebrews 10:26) The good news is that those who have gone all the way unto salvation with the Lord Jesus Christ need never fear that.

Eternal Salvation is founded in the very being of the word. There are but a few words that exist in all three states of being at the same time. But words like salvation and sanctification have that happy condition. When we read the word salvation, we who are saved have that truth to hold on to. Salvation in the past tense points to the time when I received the Lord Jesus as my Savior and was saved. So I have been kept to this present hour when I can speak with the voice of the redeemed. Having the Lord Jesus Christ as my Great High Priest and Mediator with God the Father, I am being saved. And one day I will stand before the Mercy Seat of God and be judged by Jesus who loved me and bought me for Himself. He will acknowledge me as His own and I will be saved! That is the very meaning of the word Salvation!

The fear of losing ones salvation is an attitude that is contrary to the victory over fear that is to be found in the Scriptures. Even in the Old Testament when men moved in faith looked forward to the promise of a Savior this spirit was rejected. The Psalmist wrote: The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1) For the person who is genuinely in Christ and not merely religious there is absolutely no reason to ever being in fear of being lost again, or of any other thing this old world holds. You see the salvation of God is founded in His love (John 3:16) and perfect love casteth out fear (1John 4:18) because fear hath torment. The Bible tells us in the same place He that feareth is not made perfect in love. This does not mean they are not saved, but it does keep the Lord from accomplishing all that He would in their lives. The truth of eternal security, embraced by the redeemed, is an enabling freedom that allows the believer to go forward with God.
